At Headway House in Cambridge, our professional
care team is supported by a group of volunteers and activity tutors.
Telephone support and advice is readily available
and support is provided at Addenbrooke's.
Headway's Neuro-Trauma Support Coordinator offers advice
and support fo families during patients' stay at the hospital in the
Neuro Critical Care Unit, with follow up visits in the neurosurgical
wards (A wards) and in the Lewin Department.
Home visits are undertaken by our Community Brain Injury Advisors to assess needs and to
assist
the family who can feel deluged and confused by the paperwork involved
with completing benefit claims, initiating legal action, appealing
against official decisions, understanding medical terminology or simply
knowing who to turn to for help on different matters, from counselling
to suppliers of disability aids.
Our Carers’ Support Group
meets monthly which enables families and carers to share experiences
and provide mutual support.
We liaise with social workers, GPs, solicitors,
housing
agencies, banks and building societies, Addenbrooke's and grant making
charities. We also participate in case reviews.
