Being an OT Student at Headway Cambridgeshire

24th November, 2014

"My name is Laura and I am an Occupational Therapy student and am currently in my final year at university. For my final placement I chose to come to Headway Cambridgeshire for eight weeks as part of my journey to becoming an Occupational Therapist.

At Headway Cambridgeshire I have received a friendly welcome by both staff and clients and I have attended sessions at the hub as well as in the community. My role is to help people carry out their daily activities as independently as possible or suggest support where it is needed.

I will help by finding solutions to everyday problems and help adapt the environment around you to make things easier. I hope to see you whilst I am at Cambridge Headway whether it is to help or support you, or even just to say hello and have a cup of tea and a chat over lunchtime break!"

The Hospital Brain Injury Co-ordinator became someone who absolutely understood how I felt, I didn’t need to explain. I could talk about my fears and worries. She was such a great support through the difficult days, but could also celebrate the small step successes, which was important to me.
